What could be more fun than creating your own pizza? Sure it’s easy to walk into a Papa Murphy’s or a Round Table and order one, thus saving you the hassle of making it yourself, but where it also takes the creativity out of one of those meals that screams creativity. Besides, it’s a great way for kids to help out with dinner.
For this particular pizza I decided go with a bell pepper, leek, mushroom, olive and basil (from my garden) pizza. I decided to made my own crust although these days there are great store-bought ones available, or there is always the English muffin if you want to personalize them.
1 pkg of yeast
1/3 cup + 2 Tbs warm water
Dissolve yeast in warm water
¾ cup all-purpose flour
¾ cup whole wheat flour
¼ olive oil
½ tsp salt
Mix and knead for 5 minutes (I used my kitchen aid mixer to do all the work for me). Put dough in lightly oiled bowl and cover. Let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.
Punch down dough. Oil pizza pan and spread dough onto pan. Spread on sauce (I used tomato paste for a nice concentrated tomato flavor). Add cheese and toppings, followed by more cheese. Bake at around 400 for 15-20 minutes.
